Evaluation
Final Video Complete:
"The video was really good i felt that all the way through the costume was spot on for the gnere and the actors were good and were funny too, i especially liked were the fight was slowed down becuase in the song the singer slows her speech down and it goes with the song." Lucy - 18

1. In what way does your music promotion package used to develop or challenge form and conventions fo real music promotion packages?
my inspiratrion comes from basshunter in the song "Now your Gone" where the girls in the music video get ready to go out on a night out with her mates. this gave me the inspiration because in the lyrics of our song she decides to go out after finding out that her boyfriend had cheated on her so she rings her friend and decides to go out dancing and having fun. Another influence in the song came to me with the girl band "tatto" because in are music video they have a girl singer too. A other influence i had was "Florence and the Machine's" album "Lungs" because the voice of their lead singer has a same type of tone and sound to the lead singer in our music video. Paramore also have a female singer and they also gave me inspiration too.

The conventions that we used was boyfriend and girl friend a happy couple but as the songs progresses the feeling towards each other get slightly worse and worse until they split and she decideds she is better than him becuase he cheats and goes out with her mates but we used getting ready scenes with putting on make up and dancing in a club as the conventions.
The CD cover and the psoter were the same becasue as you look at the poster it is dark with a small shade of light comming through to show she went through a dark time but at the end of the song her mood didnt feel as dark and was a bit brighter. This show the contrast between dark and bright.
2. How effective is the combination of your main products an ancillary texts?

In our ancillary we decided it was essential that the layout, graphics and photos fitted in with the genre of our muisc video. The audience can also see the music video in the making and relate to the pictures.
We wanted to design our digipack and magazine as part of the music video was used and as they see the Digipack they will remember the music video and want to buy the CD or album, which is a form of synergy.
To find images for our Digipack we decided to re-watch our music video, which we did and decided to use ideas from there and use the technical elements. The performance of the girl in the music video was her lip syncing was used with a light behind her which lit the outline of her face up in blue. We then photographed the singers face which was lit from behind and we added a blue chrome on photoshop.

PHOTO OF CD COVER NEXT TO PRINT SCREEN OF OUR MUSIC VIDEO:

The theme we used is the blue light which is repeated in the Digipack on the disc holder. We then photographed blue and whote fairy lights which we made blurry and out of focus.
IN FOCUS OUT OF FOCUS:
On the Digipack panel we put the band biography with a blue light and is naturally backlit. Our text was written with the colour of white, black and blue which made the text stand out of the page and make the images better and more appealing. with using these colours, we decided to aim our target audiece at men even though the target audince was women first.
We decided that the most the audice would remember is when the girls boyfriend gets hit in the face with flowers, we also included the photo of the boyfriend and girlfriend we used this as there desktop background in the music video in the digipack we made a broken hearted version of when they were together in the video.
PHOTOS OF PANELS:

The video made our ancillary texts work because we used it for the Digipack and CD cover which i think made them look offical and had a star image on them. The target audience was directed at women so that is why we made the video from the womens point of view and we used comedy elements to make the video i.e having the girlfriend hit the boyfriend in the face with flowers and then throwing his car key on to the ground away from him, and having lipstick on the tea cup which is old fashioned cheesiness so it fits in with our Digipack and the audience find the video funny and memorable enough to buy the CD or Album
3. What have you learnt from the audience feedback?
we used technical elements and the comedy side to things to make our video just the way we wanted it to be.
The plus points from the audience were they liked the mise en scene aspects of the video with the costume and settings, the audience also liked the comedy aspect were the flowers hits the boy in the face and it makes the audience laugh and makes the video rememberal. It is also catchy witht the lyrics being up to date with it being about relationships and the audience relate to the girlfriend more because the video was designed to show the side of the girl in the music video. for next time this helped us to add different elements to the music video and make it as popualar as such videos like "Novemeber Rain" by Guns and Roses.

"I felt that the mise-en-scene was just right to fit in with the music and the genre, i also thought it was clever that the video was funny also so if you saw it on MTV you would remember it and want to watch it again" - phllippa 17
"I thought this video was edited really well with the fight scene being slowed down and as the girl actresses got in the car, went through the kitchen and went up the stairs was all to the beat of the drums in the song." - Clare - 18

"In my point of view i think that the videos narrative was really well told because the begginning she was all happy and in love and as the stroy goes on she loses her boyfriend but still ends up happy at the end and it makes you have a feel good ending." - Courtney - 17
" The video was so funny and made me laugh aslong as just listening to the very cool music, i also thought the narrative was expertly done as it told the story really well." Trever - 17
"The codes and conventions of this music were typical in a way because it was a love story and someone always gets hurt, but it still came across as a happy romance as the girl is happy at the end which makes the view feel happy for her and can relate to the story too." Katie - 17

"I thought the blue tinted light at the beginning and at the end was used well as she starts to sing. At the end of the video she looks straight at the camera and i think that makes her look straight at the audience and relate the video to them." Laura - 19

"I thought the cleche' of finding the photograph of her boyfriend cheating on her at the sunviser was a bit cheesy but the video is cheesy yet clever, because i felt that using facebook to dump her boyfriend was clever becuase it was using modern technology to do it. Also i though when he turned up at her door saying sorry with so roses, and she takes them and hits him in the face was funny becuase in your mind you say take that and cheer abit for her." Jade - 18
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evealuating stages?
In the planning stages we decided to use modern technology e.g. Facebook where she ends the relationship we used this to show the modern technology which is in the same age genre as the target audience we aimed for. We also used the Apple Mac which is a high tech computer which student use in their university days and a mouse with it which show the technology side to things, also we used a mobile phone which everyone has but shows the technology of the modern time.

We decided to go n Myspace and listened to a few bands until we found "Snakes Hate Fire", which we used their song "Innocent". the reason we chose the song because it has a good beat to it and has lyrics we can relate to and make a music video out of and the lyrics helped to modernise the music video because of the student fan base we decide to target are audience for.
We didn't challenge the conventions we just developed them instead young target audince e.g. facebook and young teenage issues such as relationships and how they can end so suddenly by a stupid act. And using the Mac and the mouse from the computer this shows modern times with the technology used. Facebook is used to show technology in the modern era because everyone goes on it to socialise with their friends.

The technology i am holding here is the Camera, Tripod and Tape, we used the tape in the Camera and we used the zoom button and the settings are set at 16:9 for Widescreen. The Tripod was used for keeping the shot steady without holding it, you can also extend it upward to make the shot higher up or lower down. The Tape is put in the side of the camera where there is a holding bit for it where it can start recording after you hit the red button to start recording or when to stop.
The Track here is used for moving the camera foward and backwards on a roll its steady you just attach the camera at the bottom and move it foward and backwards with the black rod that i am holding.

Here is Nicole editing we used this equipment alot seem as though most of making a video is used in the editing room, we slowed the pace of the video, made it follow the beat and just make the video fit to the beat of the song, so it will follow the rythm.

Cast Decisions
We have asked one of our friends to star in our video as the main female/“The girlfriend”. We wanted to use a person who was around the same age as the girl in the real band so that when our actress lip-syncs; the visuals fit the voice in a roundabout way.
Also we referred back to our audience research and saw that our target audience is mainly girls who are aged 15 to 17 years old. We have chosen a song and video theme, which is in a way quite biased and in favour of female opinion.
Also the girl we have asked already has a full A-Level in
Theatre Studies and has a lot of acting experience and she too is a Media Studies student so we know that she will take our direction well.
We decided that “The Girlfriend” and the male actor we will chose to play the “boyfriend” in our music video have to be comfortable with each other so we chose a friend of our main female to play the “boyfriend”.
Similarly, with the girls we have asked to play girlfriend’s friends, we wanted the actors to appear natural and comfortable together and so we are using friends of the actress who is playing girlfriend.

Interview with a Fan
Question 1: How long have you listened to Snakes Hate Fire?
I have listened to Snakes Hate Fire for three years now because their songs are really funky and I enjoy listening to them as I travel to work.
Question 2: What is your favourite song of Snakes Hate Fire and why?
My favourite song is ‘Innocent’ because the storyline of the song is about a person lying and cheating on their partner and this also happened to me around about the time that the song was released it helped me decide to go it alone and I have become a stronger person because of the song.
Question 3: What type of genre is the music?
The genre of the band Snakes Hate Fire is glam rock pop. I think they are quite similar in some ways to the band No Doubt – the band Gwen Stefani was in before she went solo. They both have female vocalist with powerful voices and the rest of the band are men.
Question 4: Have you ever seen the band live in concert and where?
I have seen the band live in concert twice now once a headline show at The Tavern in Wigan and also when they were the support act for popular band The Mission District at the Roadhouse in Manchester. They are great live performers and I am always checking their Myspace page for tour news and looking forward to the next time they are playing live.
Question 5: Do you feel that you can relate to their lyrics and why?
I believe I can relate to their songs within the lyrics because with the song ‘Innocent’ I was going through the same thing that the song is about and it helped to cheer me up alot more when I was down and depressed after my boyfriend cheated on me just like what happened to whoever wrote the song in the band.

Notes on the Band / Artist
Band Name: Snakes Hate Fire
The band is made up of 5 musicians from Manchester (Grace Tither on vocals, piano and guitar, Adam Bradbury on guitar and vocals, Phil Rigby on guitar and vocals, Tom Booth on bass and Mark Tither on drums), together, they create catchy pop-rock style music. The band was created initially as a backing group for Grace, but after working together so well they decided to try to make it as a band together. The first EP, titled 'Everything' was recorded in October 2008, and all the songs on it were written by the band.
Considering the short space of time they have been together (since March 2008), they have had great success and have sold out venues including Manchester Academy and Liverpool Barfly, on top of this; major record lables have shown a keen interest in them this year.

CD Posters

These photos are adversising what the CD shows with the band on and they sometimes have the same image as the album cover, they show the same name as the album cover as the posters are advertising the album in the first place, with the date and how much it is to buy the CD. and you can buy most of these new CDs at big mega stores called HMV and Virgin Megastores.

Digi Packs
Here are some examples of Digipacks:
The Digipack shows pictures of the CD album and artist and are spread out over the covers.

The Digipack is often used for CD singles or special edition versions of CD albums because it stands out more than the usual CD cover and CD cases.

The Digipak is a patented style of compact disc or DVD packaging, which acquired the original trademark holder.

music video of N - Dubz "I Need You"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxq-wCf5G8o
Aspects of Performance:
The band are always in all of their videos relating todays technology and issues in their lyrics.
Narrative:
The narrative is linear because it tell a story of how they met someone at a club and couldn't get hold of them the next day.
How the video effects or produces a larger image for the Star/ Artist/ Band:
The band show their musical talents and the fact that they have money by the amount of bling they have around they necks and wrists.
How the visual relates to the stars:
The visual shows the artists as rich and talented so show off how much they've got.
Mise-en-scene:
the costume at night all the acts are in black or grey with shnny objecs around their necks and wrists, they all arive in different forms of transport(a helicopter, a motorbike and a lambourgini car), when they go into the club they are all dressed in red and white with the male characters wearing big black sun glasses and wearing their trade mark materials (hats, chains, earings).
one of the male characters uses up to date lyrics by talking about facebook a communication device on the internet. they use lyrics like neddle in a hay stack and some others to show their writing talents. when they meet the opposite sex they want to talk to they enter a room of privacy and their fantasies of richs and pleasure. the shots makes them cut to outside with their modes of transport all showing, then when they all get together for the chorus they are all sat on a lightened up seat in the club showing their importance, the second male character goes inot his room of pleasure and riches and its full of tvs and fish bowles and posters. all the rooms had a red look in them to show the heat of the moment meeting someone for the first time and showing the heat of the moment. at the end of the video the artisits show off all their belonging such as cars bling and eyes which most arists wearing sunglasses don't show as much.
Use of camera:
Mid-shots, full shots, 2 shots, zooms in and out, tilts, wipe, close ups, extreme close ups , low angle and high angle shots and panning shot, also using the track .
Special Effects:
There wern't any used.
Genre:
Pop, Rap, Hip Hop and Dance.
Audience:
The target audience would be teenagers around 13 - early 20's
Music Channel:
MTV, Viva, The Hits, TMF, The Starz.
Editing:
The songs starts with the helicopter car and bike shown in different ways, the shots cut from the three different stars and they are full body shots. with close ups of the face on the stars when they start to sing, theres a whipe across the screen to show what they did the night before and show the face expressions of the people they like and shows the order the song is goin to go in with the way they look at the singers, it goes mid shot full body then back to close up to show the intestity of the moment, and does a slow motion walk as they are let down, also shows a point of view shot of the first character on facebook, the character all gather round the camera at different heights to show all their faces in the sceen, when the female character starts singing there are 7 cuts of different settings with the close up of her face the visual relates to the lyrics with the "Bang bang shoes" and the "looking so confused" face expression. and when the chorus starts the shots differ between close ups, full shots, low angles, high angles, three shots with zoom ins and zoom outs when the second male singer starts singing his solo there is a two mid shot, with close ups to show his lip syncing when he has a girl in his section with most of the shot looking up at him with low angles and when the girl leaves as he comes back he is in slow motion as he looks for her and a mid shot of him swinging his arm in frustration as he loses her. As the song comes to an end the cameras angles show the artists as only human but still pretty important with a tilt shot of the artists to show of their bodies in the way they want to see them potrayed on television, the music video finishes with a shot showing all the artists and finishes with a tilt and a shot of the sun rise to show another day is going to happen so forget about the past.
Represenation:
It shows the stars as gangsters but they still have feeling and want to meet the right person for them.
