SECTION 1:
What should be in a music video?
The music video should link to the song in some sort of way with dance routines for a song like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes". The band should also feature in the music video in any sort of way e.g. the gorrilaz only feature in a animated state. The narrative of the music videos tells a story e.g. The White Stripes with "Doorbell", the song is used as a story for someone ringing a doorbell.
Notes on Musioc videos
The music videos are used as a marketing device, to sell the audience a finished product and increase sales. Music videos were all main stream until the 80's where new and exciting videos came out that were different to others. A Hard Days Night was the first music video (musical sequence) because the images didnt relate to the song .
The beatles led the way in penny lane, strawberry field forever which were both directed by Peter Goldman which made his songs fancy. film incert 65' was when the beatles made clips that put them selves in more things and boasted them selves more and other bands and artists clocked onto this and started to use the ideas too. the videos were also slowed down for the first time and that created slow motion in music videos.
TV Channel
MTV was launched and the first video to be shown on the music channel was "video killed the radio star".
Censorship
Some of the videos were censored such as " smack my bitch up" by the prodigy and they were censored by the british board becasue they didnt want that type of music being portrayed on british telelvisions all around the country. other videos that were censored were michael jacksons "black or white" because of him touching himself innapropriatlly and making a divide between black people and white people. And "Rock DJ" by Robbie Williams because he takes from stripping off his clothes to peeling his skin off which needed to be censored for the younger generation that follow Robbie Williams' music.
Music Theory
Music videos have made pop superficially based on an image e.g. victoria beckham being so skinny in all her videos and black R 'n' B singers being surrounded by half naked women. pops songs are enough for the audience becasue it provides a visual to the song you would here on itunes or on the radio.
Andrew Goodwin quoted "A good music video is a clip that responds to the pleasure of music, in which is made visual, either in new ways or in a way that accenturates excitisting visual assosiations."
Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics shown in such videos in boy or girl bands. The relationship between the lyrics of visual eithercontridicts the videos.
the relationship between videos and music either contrends what happens on screen, also the demand of the record lable of the artists amplifies what happens and illastrates it.
the frequencey of what happens in music videos such as perving at a woman is over the top and made overly dramatoic with that there are inntertactial references too.
